Since becoming independent a year ago an extraordinary change has come over Montenegro, according to The Economist magazine. Montenegro is having countrywide clean up, making efforts to improve infrastructure and has seen real GDP growth of 6.5%.

The tiny country has joined the United Nations, the World Bank and the IMF, and initialled an agreement with the European Union. It has taken the first steps towards joining NATO. Slowly,
says The Economist, Montenegro is becoming normal.
