Petrovac
Petrovac is charming little town with a relaxed seaside atmosphere and a delightful stretch of sandy beach. It was originally a fishing village and has managed to preserve something of its traditional character. The promenade is planted with flowers and rosmary and lovely old stone buildings line the seafront. Further interest is added by the two islets which lie out in the bay, Katic and Sveta Nedjela, each with a sailor's chapel. Petrovac also has a number of souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants. The walled harbour is watched over by a Venetian fortress, Kastel Lastva, built in the sixteenth century to warn off pirates and now a night club.
Unsurprisingly Petrovac is a popular destination and can become quite busy in the height of summer. To escape the crowds walk over the headland at the eastern end to an unspoilt cove named Lucice. This is a wonderful place to swim as the sea is very shallow and the sandy beach is backed by cypresses and pines.
