Montenegro Hosts Second Summer Festival

Refresh, Montenegro's summer music festival, will be held in the Maximus disco in Kotor's old town from 7th - 10th August this year. Promoted by the Exit team responsible for Serbia's famous Novi Sad festival, the event promises to be an exciting one, with DJ Dave Clarke among those appearing.

Blue Flag Flies on Eighteen Beaches

The prestigious Blue Flag will be displayed this year on eighteen of Montenegro's beaches, demonstrating they have met the demanding criteria stipulated by this global environmental campaign. The Blue Flag is a symbol of high ecological standards in environmental management and protection, water quality, and also safety standards at beaches and in marinas. An important aspect of the campaign is raising public awareness of environmental concerns. Blue Flags are awarded for only one season at a time. The campaign was launched in Montenegro in 2003.

Madonna Concert Confirmed

American star Madonna will perform on Montenegro's Jaz beach on 25th September 2008, as part of her 'Sticky and Sweet' tour. It will be the singer's only performance in the former Yugoslavia. Tickets will go on sale on 11th July and will be priced from 35 euros.

Montenegro Grows More Popular as Holiday Destination

Montenegro’s tourism industry is booming. This week saw the launch of the first direct flights from London's Gatwick airport to Tivat in Montenegro. Figures from the Montenegrin Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Protection show that the number of visitors to the country has been rising significantly for the past few years and that the length of time spent in Montenegro has also increased.

UN Report Shows Balkans is One of the Safest Areas in Eurpoe

After a decade of turmoil and instability in the Balkans the region has now become one of the safest in Europe, according to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The study indicates that greater stability has led to a reduction in levels of crime against people and property - such as homicide, robbery, rape, burglary, and assault - which are now lower than in Western Europe. The number of murders is also falling throughout the region. This positive trend has been particularly noticeable in the past few years and the report concludes that progress is likely to continue.

Montenegro to Charge 'Eco Tax' on Visiting Vehicles

As the number of tourists coming to Montenegro increases annually the tourist association of the tiny Balkan country has announced that visitors who enter Montenegro by motorised vehicles will be charged an ecological tax of 10 euros. The payment will be valid for one year.
